Superintendents<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>RULES &amp; REGULATIONS:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Registration papers may be requested and examined by Beef Division Officials during the entry process.<\/li>\n<li>All Beef animals exhibited will be shown individually in their respective individual classes.<\/li>\n<li>Youth and Open Classes to be shown separately.<\/li>\n<li>Breed specific classes apply to Registered and Commercial Cattle.<\/li>\n<li>Heifer calves can show as Breeding Cattle or Feeder Calves, but not both.<\/li>\n<li>Weights will not be used for Breeding Classes.<\/li>\n<li>All Official Bull Classes are for registered animals only<\/li>\n<li>Youth entries will automatically be entered into corresponding open classes as competition allows.<\/li>\n<li>Feeder calves must weigh 325 &#8211; 650 pounds.<\/li>\n<li>Feeder calves must have visible ear tag as identification.<\/li>\n<li>Showmanship animals are to be exhibited clean, dry, and unfitted<\/li>\n<li>Each Purebred Breed Must have 2 or More Entries to Qualify for a Separate Show and all entries must have registration papers to show by Breed<\/li>\n<li>For \u201cCow and Calf Classes\u201d Calf must be the Cow&#8217;s most recent natural born calf and be born on or after January 1, 2026 to be eligible and cannot be Purebred<\/li>\n<li>Market Steers shall NOT have horns<\/li>\n<li>All 4-H\/FFA project animals shall be entered into Youth Division Classes. All Market Steers project animals must have been identified at the official weigh-in prior to this fair year.<\/li>\n<li>Fitting &amp; Grooming Rule &#8211; Cattle in the market steer show and sale will be exhibited clean, dry and unfitted. Cattle are to be clipped, (before show day), washed, and brushed or combed. No other materials may be used. While at the Jefferson County Fair, the use of water colder than the hydrants at the fairgrounds, i.e., cooler, refrigerated, ice, etc. is NOT allowed. The use of ice packs, cooling products, or sprays that contain alcohol are NOT allowed, i.e., &#8220;cool brace&#8221;, &#8220;cool breeze&#8221;, etc., including cold towels. If the superintendent is notified by the judge that a goat has been &#8220;iced&#8221; or &#8220;cooled&#8221; that goat will be disqualified and must leave the fairgrounds.<\/li>\n<li>Hanging or &#8220;Strangling&#8221; Goats (Extreme showmanship) &#8211; All goats must have FOUR feet on the floor in the show ring at all times during showmanship, market classes and breeding classes. Verification may be necessary.<\/li>\n<li>Exhibitors should see that sheep entered for premiums have been handled sufficiently so as to admit being closely inspected by the judge without struggle. If necessary, department officials will divide market classes by weight.<\/li>\n<li>All sheep oiled or blackened shall be excluded from competition.<\/li>\n<li>All market lambs must be in sheep barn area 1 hour prior to the start of the show and remain in that area until the show is complete. Lambs in line (as directed by superintendents) are the only authorized animals allowed outside of the sheep barn area. Failure to follow any rules could result in disqualification.<\/li>\n<li>No &#8220;cooling&#8221; or &#8220;icing&#8221; lambs at ANY time. While at the Jefferson County Fair, the use of water colder than the hydrants at the fairgrounds, i.e., cooler, refrigerated, ice, etc. is NOT allowed. The use of ice packs, cooling products, or sprays that contain alcohol are NOT allowed, i.e., &#8220;cool brace&#8221;, &#8220;cool breeze&#8221;, etc., including cold towels. If the superintendent is notified by the judge that a lamb has been &#8220;iced&#8221; or &#8220;cooled&#8221; that lamb will be disqualified and must leave the fairgrounds.<\/li>\n<li>Hanging or &#8220;Strangling&#8221; Lambs (Extreme showmanship) &#8211; All lambs must have FOUR feet on the floor in the show ring at all times during showmanship, market classes and breeding classes. Exhibitors may move feet to set the lamb up but then all FOUR feet must be placed back on the ground. Exhibitors will receive a warning if they are found hanging lambs. Superintendents will be inspecting the barns and will use the following system if they find a stall\/pen that needs attention:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Green card<\/strong> &#8211; card will be placed on pen\/stall which indicates that the stall\/pen needs attention (1st warning)<\/li><li><strong>Yellow card<\/strong> &#8211; card will be placed on pen\/stall which indicates that the exhibitor has not made an effort to improve the condition of the pen (2nd warning)<\/li><li><strong>Red card<\/strong> &#8211; card will be placed on pen\/stall and superintendent will notify exhibitor that they cannot sell their animal and must leave the fairgrounds due to no effort being made to improve condition of area<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>ALL ANIMALS MUST GO HOME AFTER RECEIVING A RED CARD AND NO PREMIUMS WILL BE AWARDED.<\/strong><\/p><p>If an exhibitor finds a card on their pen\/stall, they must talk to the superintendent of the department to see what improvements need to be made.<\/p><p><strong>YOUTH AND OPEN CLASS <\/strong><\/p><p><strong>HERDSMAN AWARDS<\/strong><\/p><p>Youth and Open Class Herdsman Awards and one Honorable mention awards will be presented in the beef, goat, dairy, sheep, swine and fiber divisions of the Livestock Department.
